Fender USA ’62 Jazz White Scratch-plate Bass Re-Issue Longhorn
owned by Nicky Wire circa 1993/94
A very rare opportunity for any Manic Street Preachers fan to own an extensively used both live & in the studio bass … exclusively offered through The Music Deli with authentication from Nicky himself.
This bass was used for the entire recording of the their most famous release ‘Everything Must Go’ and throughout their recently celebrated 30th Anniversary CD ‘This Is My Truth Tell Me Yours’ release of 1998.
In concert this bass has seen a lot of action … it was used in the gig filmed for the ‘Everything Live – Nymex Manchester’ DVD from 1997, and can be seen prominently on songs such as ‘You Love Us’ … it was also used in the MTV Awards ceremony in Milan, while supporting Oasis in Manchester at the end of the ‘90’s, and the whole USA tour during that era. It was a staple of Nicky’s live setup for classics like ‘A Design For Life’ and ‘If You Tolerate This Your Children Will Be Next’.
Nicky had a number of basses adapted to suit his requirements including an additional pickup where the neck meets the body after purchase, and it also has an elongated top horn to accommodate that symmetrically and to allow upper fret access.
The pickups were also wound to Nicky’s preference with slightly higher output. Showing signs of heavy use with dings and scratches that add real character, it is also missing one strap button. It comes with a soft gig bag.
A nice extra included with the bass is a photo of Nicky with the bass that he will personally sign for the purchaser
Here is some additional information regarding the specification of the bass in standard form
“The one-piece maple neck has a slender C shape at the nut, tapering to a more substantial C shape as you travel up the thick slab rosewood fretboard, with ample shoulder in every register. The profile measures .820″ deep at the 1st fret, graduating to .975″ at the 12th. The fretboard has a vintage 7 1/4″ radius with original frets. The bass conforms to traditional Fender spec with a full 34″ scale and comfortable 1 1/2″ wide nut. On the headstock, the original clover button chrome tuning machines are intact, and the lightly ambered peghead sports the correct ’62-style Fender Jazz Bass decal.”
